A calm home means a calm mind. One area to explore when decorating or reorganizing a home is tropical decor or Balinese interior design. The main principle being, bring the outdoors inside. Because of this main principle, the main materials and elements used in Balinese interior design are wood, stone, water features and indoor plants.
Furniture Around The Home
Rattan or teak are natural woods that can make up an entire home’s furniture. Teak, a hard wood, is ideal for furniture pieces such as bed frames and dining tables. While rattan which can be weaved into wicker furniture, which is light weight and durable, is popular for couches, chairs and bar stools. There is also resin wicker, which is a synthetic that mimics wood, which is commonly used as outdoor furniture because it can withstand direct sunlight and rain.
Even windows can be treated with the tropical style. Bamboo shades or matchstick blinds are an easy tropical fix for windows. Don’t forget the uncommon areas that could do with some tropical furniture. For example a bathroom can be made more comfortable with a teak shower bench. Or add that little spa touch with a wooden bath mat.
Peace Of Mind
De-cluttering a home should be a goal when trying to achieve calmness. Stone bowls on top of coffee tables or by doors help keep items together, such as remotes, keys, phones, etc. Curtain room dividers are ideal for dividing up a room such as the kitchen and the living area. Or they can be used to hide away a home office or gym equipment from plain sight.
When you are surrounded with the natural elements such as wood, water and stone, it is much easier to be in relaxed state to begin meditating. With the use of a Balinese decor scheme, a home can be transformed into a tropical spa like environment, calming the senses, allowing focused thought.
