Many of us spend our entire lives in pursuit of happiness, fulfillment, contentment, and abundance. While the deep desire to expand and improve the conditions of our lives is an essential element of the human spirit, a constant yearning for a greater good just beyond our current horizon can easily become a disease of the soul that infects every aspect of our being. This is actually the condition that most of us experience for the majority of our lives, but living in discontentment, scarcity, and unhappiness turns out to be entirely a matter of choice.
This meditation will help you make a different choice – the choice to walk the path of happiness – that will help you claim the fulfillment, abundance, and deep contentment that is your divine birthright.
The choice of happiness does not require that you give up your desire to create a more perfect life for yourself and your loved ones. The deep desire to pursue worthwhile goals and to express our positive creative power is as much a part of our nature as is our physical form. This inclination toward abundance and expansion is actually one of the keys to the path of happiness. Surprisingly, our desire for more and better is best expressed and fulfilled when approached from a state of gratitude, fulfillment, and contentment.
This may at first appear to be a paradox. After all, if we were truly content and fulfilled, what need would there be for expansion, improvement, or betterment? Walking the path of happiness requires that we embrace the truth of our nature, which is that we exist in constant duality. Through the power of our choice, we express opposite traits and characteristics at any given moment. We are embodiments of the potential for both greed and generosity, anger and forgiveness, kindness and cruelty, faith and doubt, love and hate. We are paradox personified. While it may sound unusual, it really isn’t; paradox and duality are woven into the fabric of our being, and are also woven into the fabric of the entire universe.
Not all of our innate paradoxes seem so clearly definable as either positive or negative; the paradox of the path of happiness is one such dichotomy. Blissful contentment with the conditions of our existence, and contentment’s apparent opposite, the desire and expectation of greater abundance, improvement, and fulfillment, are both powerfully positive states of consciousness. And while they may at first seem diametrically opposed, they are really just different facets of the same universal characteristic of abundance.
These two opposite but integral qualities of abundance – desire and contentment – together form the first part of the key to living on the path of happiness. The desire to improve conditions that surround us allows us to view challenging circumstances (and all circumstances, for that matter) as opportunities for growth and expansion. The quality of perfect contentment and fulfillment allows us to view each of the conditions of our lives with gratitude and amazement. Together, these two opposite but unified characteristics of abundance can change everything about how we view every event, person, struggle, triumph, challenge, and reward that comes into our life. It is the first key to choosing a path of happiness.
The second key to living a life of happiness, or walking the path of happiness, lies in recognizing that we are endowed with amazing creative power. We don’t realize that we wield our most powerful creative force every moment of every day. This force is our power of observation.
How is observation our most powerful creative gift? The nature of the events, conditions, and even inanimate objects we encounter on a daily basis is not absolute. Whether we realize it or not, we intend them to have certain characteristics, and this intention is manifest in the way we observe the specific events and objects in our lives. Observing life from the determined vantage point of ever-increasing optimism, abundance, and happiness creates a life of ever-expanding fulfillment and joy.
This is not a uniquely human characteristic, nor is it a quaint, comforting artifice of thought. Rather, just like the facets of abundance, the creative power of observation is woven into the fabric of the universe at the quantum level. All energy and matter exist in a state of continuous probability. This means that the objects and conditions that we observe as absolute and solid really are not so; rather, they are manifestations of the defining power of observation. We perceive a definite, solid, matter-dominant universe. But the truth is quite the opposite. At the quantum level, the universe is an infinitely variable, pliable, and even compliant creation. As a result, our power of observation takes on a profoundly creative role in the realities we observe around us.
What does this mean for us, today, right now? It means that we were born with the divine power to create an abundant, fulfilled, ever-expanding reality. We express this power through our choices. Walking the path of happiness means choosing to observe each condition in our lives as a divine gift, intended expressly for us.
Notice the powerful difference in our terminology from the usual lexicon. There is no need to pursue, seek, or chase after happiness. The life-altering truth we seek to embrace and incorporate into our lives is that we have infinite power to choose happiness. It does not exist outside of us, and cannot be found, discovered, or stumbled upon.
Rather, happiness radiates from within us through the power of our intention. Walking the path of happiness is a gift we can choose at every moment, regardless of any other condition in life.
This meditation will help you translate these ideas into concrete practice in your daily life. This meditation will help you choose the life-changing power of happiness in all your moments. Open your legs slightly, comfortably, and relax your feet.

Breathe deeply again. Visualize your blood carrying relaxation, life, and contentment to your jaw, your face, your eyes, your forehead.
As the rejuvenating circulation reaches your eyes, feel them soften.
Allow the smile to return to your face.
Feel the powerful relaxation reach your entire face, neck, shoulders.
Feel the life-giving blood flow down your arms, past your elbows, and into your forearms and hands.
